Indeed, never heard of her - that's a hell of a ride. I think the Overland Event is fully booked now, but maybe there is a book in the offing?

I believe you're right 3D. A helluva ride indeed....I'd have loved to have met her; let's hope there IS a book in the offing. I listened to an audiobook of Elspeth Beard's rtw adventure. A remarkable lady and a grand yarn too.....1982 her trip was, and she was the first British woman to do the RTW thing. But then there is also Anne France Dautheville, who completed her ride in in 1973.....and then the rest...:

One of the most memorable travel tales I have read was Lois Pryce's account of putting her bike on a train in the DRC (IIRC) with a bunch of increasingly stoned soldiers. Probably just as well they were smoking as I think it would have been even more dicey if they had been drinking. A gripping story.
Funny how Elspeth Beard found that no one was interested when she came home from her trip, now travelling can lead to some fame and a decent income!

near the end of her book, Elspeth Beard relates how she had returned from her trip and arrived home late one evening unannounced. She had parked her bike in the garage and entered the house.
Eventually she found her mother upstairs tidying washing away and described how her her mother greeted her "Oh hello dear...did you have a nice time?" Like she had just been out to the dancing, or for a picnic with friends....magic stuff! lol

One book I have describes the first Cairo to Cape Town trip completed by Teresa Wallach and Florence Blenkiron on a Panther outfit. Think it was a Panther. They did their trip in the thirties which must have been a hell of an undertaking, even given the reach of the Empire at that time. Even if you could get through South Sudan these days, it is still quite a trip, one which I'd love to do but can't see happening the way things are going there.
Edit:. There's some video

It's odd how the two of them seemed to go separate ways towards the end.
The book is a great read.

I would imagine if they were sharing that trailer tent all the way they'd had enough of each other.
