Notice that the campsite at Poolewe seems to be open at the moment - do you have to join the Camping and Caravan club to stay there?

good question ... following thread

I seem to recollect that Andy camped in that site.
But that's wrong --
Checking the recommended camp site list it was THROTTLED !
Three Dawg - is the toilet block open ? That's the key question I think.

Says here non-members are welcome - https://www.campsites.co.uk/se…and-caravanning-club-site

Ah, good. Although my planned trip there has been postponed in favour of a couple of nights at the Altnacealgach near Ledmore Junction in a bit over a week's time. Plan to take a run up to the north coast without rushing for once.

I just had a look on the Poolewe C&C site.
There is absolutely no mention of Covid.
I entered a tent booking for a couple of nights at end of this month. I didn't go to "pay" but it looked like it could go be booked.
I DO NOT BELIEVE IT.
No mention of Covid suggests to me a completely out of date website.
P.S.it was pennies under £40 for a 3metre X 2metre tent !!

Wasn't the site completely closed last year? The one at Laide seems to be open and a deal cheaper.

Yes, I have camped there and am not a member.

Throttled, am I correct in remembering that you just turned up at the site and the nice man gave you a pitch for a few£ ???
(Not that that matters if it is shut!).

I sent Gruinard bay, Laide, a wee email and much to my surprise got this back this evening.
It is effectively the standard bring your own shitter and shower and you're in.
"Thanks for showing an interest in our Park.
Just to let you know we are taking bookings for Touring Pitches only with own facilities on board, as our shared facilities are not open.
Please note water and waste disposal facilities are for the Park guests only." -
I checked with the Gairloch site today, and they are hoping to take tents by the end of the month.
Big sand is taking tents now.
I also spent a few days at Tim's place in Strontian last week, and he is taking tents too.
-
Ian, That's good news all round.

I do sympathise with campsites. Viruses live well in damp conditions like showers. We only have to do two which would only have been used by four people max (and we never quite got comfortable even with that) not a whole block that may have had 30, 40 or more people through.

They knew I was coming, but did not take a booking as such, which I found happens a lot when I say it is a bike and tent. But, what with all the staycations, I wonder if it will be so easy going when demand is expected to be high.
